A Note from Chelsey

When Danny hired me to join his company, we toured Italy — 50 cities, all these small towns and historical theaters that seemed straight out of a storybook. It was one of the most magical experiences of my life and one of the hardest shows I've ever danced.

Everything in OPEN was originated with us. It came from the Momix and Pilobolus world, so there was a lot of theater involved — this beautiful hybrid of classical technique and theatrical storytelling.

I had just come out of a stretch of musical theater and hadn't done much concert dance, which I'd always wanted to. This show clarified everything for me. I left Memphis to do it, and by the end I was like — yes, I'm good. I'm ready to go back to Broadway. It was that hard and that rewarding.

Performing at the David Koch Theater at Lincoln Center with PEARL was its own moment — on the stage where New York City Ballet performs. I had a dance teacher whose student was a principal there. That stage always felt like "making it" to me. I finally did it, just in a very different context.
