Memphis
First National tour
A Note from ChelseyThis is how I got my equity card, after going to an open call ECC. I originally went to final callbacks and didn't book it — that was in May, and the tour was going out in September. I went off and did Guys and Dolls at Barrington Stage with Josh Bergasse. Then I got the call: they wanted to see me again. Rachel Hoffman at Telsey called me in personally. She sang me through all the material at their old offices, then we went down to the basement bar at the Shubert Theater— where Memphis was playing — and the Broadway music director, played me through my song and the sides.
A week later, I got the call that I booked it, and I was in rehearsals a week after that. I made my debut as a swing covering both the Beale Street woman and Main Street woman. It's one job in which my true identity of a mixed race woman was matched. It's a crazy New York story!
