A Note from ChelseyConfession: I'm not a Harry Potter fan — and I think that's actually why I got the job as the associate movement director on both the broadway show and The First National Tour. The show needs to make sense on its own terms, not through the lens of the films or books.
Steven Hoggett gave me this show and trusted me with it, and has continued to trust me with companies ever since. Although I wasn't part of the original creation, I did bring it down from four hours to three and a half, and then condensed it further to three hours which is the current version of the show playing in the US territories.
It's a beautiful show. And the gift it keeps giving — financially, creatively, relationally — it is something I'm genuinely grateful for. It tests every skill: working with actors' relationship to movement, precision, consistency across companies. It is my sincere pleasure to work on this show daily.
